Black medic: Medicago lupulina |
Black medic is an annual, biennial or short-lived perennial. A legume, it is closely related to alfalfa. It is most often found in lawns having low fertility. Often called Japanese clover, this plant has small yellow flowers and a deep taproot. It can be pulled from moist soil without difficulty.

Keeping your lawn healthy and dense with proper watering, mowing, and fertilization will discourage invasion by black medic.
Control
Triclopyr + 2,4-D combination herbicides or other 2,4-D combination herbicides are more effective than 2,4-D alone.
