Amur Maple (Acer ginnala)

		*Amur Maple (Acer ginnala)* is a small tree, native to northern Asia, and is an excellent choice for small yards or near power lines. It can be grown as a multi-stemmed shrub or have a single trunk, and grows to 20 feet in height. Amur Maple is hardy to zone 3, has moderate water needs, can be grown in full sun or partial shade and tolerates poor soil as long as it is well-drained. This maple is fairly drought tolerant. It is most prized for its fall color. May be suffer from iron chlorosis in alkaline soils.

		Foliage consists of bright, shiny green leaves that are opposite and simple. They are 2 to 3 inches long and have 3 lobes, the middle lobe being longer than the lateral lobes. Fall color is an outstanding bright red.

		Flowers are yellow-green and fragrant, occuring in long-stemmed clusters in spring.

		Seeds are samaras, 3/4 to 1" long, that ripen in early fall and persist into winter.

		Bark is grayish brown, developing darker striations and furrows ('snakebark') with age.
