Cliff Rose (Cowania mexicana) is an upright, open shrub with irregular, gnarled branches. Native to western U.S., it is hardy to zone 4. It prefers well-drained soil and full sun, and has low water needs once established. Drought tolerant. | |

Leaves are wedge-shaped, small, and have 3 to 5 lobes. The color is a deep blue-green and they look similar to evergreens. | |

Flowers are pale yellow, rose-like and fragrant. They are profuse in spring and continue to bloom sparsely until fall. | |

Seeds are attractive white-feathery plumes that persist into winter. | |

Branches are irregular and gnarled. | |

Bark is shreddy and light brown. |
