By James E. Klett, Colorado State University Cooperative Extension Specialist, Landscape Plants Daylilies can be grown in full sun or partial sun. Generally, they need minimal care, but plants often produce more flowers in summer if they are fertilized in the spring and watered when they are actively growing in spring and summer. Because daylilies have fleshy roots that grow near the surface, mulch them to help conserve moisture and to avoid deep cultivation. After you have had the flowers four or five years, divide them in late summer. This also will help assure a lot of flowers. Photograph courtesy of Judy Sedbrook. |
